We meet for worship at the Meeting House but you are still able to join us via Zoom.
Contact: [email protected] for Zoom data (see link on Contact Us page). Quaker Meeting is very simple. When we meet on Sundays we sit together "listening" for "that of God within us". There is no pre-arranged service or ceremony and no minister in charge. When someone feels moved to, they stand and share out loud with the Meeting. Ministry may be a thought or a prayer, a question or even a song. Whatever they share will enrich the Meeting going forwards. At Sutton Coldfield, sometimes our Meetings for Worship can be completely silent; when there is spoken Ministry it usually relates to personal experience and social situations. |
Major exhibition celebrates four hundred years of Quakerism
________________________________________________________ To mark four centuries of Quakerism, Quakers in Britain has contributed to a major exhibition at the Quaker Tapestry Museum in Kendall. The exhibition celebrates the 400th birthday of Quaker co-founder, George Fox, one of the most important figures in the history of Nonconformist religion in Britain. It features originals and reproductions loaned by the Library of the Society of Friends in London and Swarthmoor Hall in Ulverston. Items loaned include some central to the birth of Quakerism, such as pamphlets about what became core Quaker beliefs in peace and equality. Fox is the best known of the men and women who founded Quakerism during the English Civil Wars, when many groups began to reconsider the role of the established church. Living with integrity He made a point of living with integrity, acting against injustice and building a faith community that practiced what they preached, looking for that of God in everyone. Several early Quakers were prominent women, including Margaret Fell who travelled the UK preaching, along with Elizabeth Hooton and others. The exhibition includes reproductions of Fell's pamphlet, Declaration from the harmless & innocent people called Quakers, the first time the Quaker commitment to peace was mentioned. __________________________________________________________ click for more information : Exhibition celebrates 400 years of Quakerism |
But in the Silence and in the Ministry, and most definitely together, we find ourselves rested, refreshed, strengthened, inspired... and ready to live as best we can for another week.
At the end of the hour we share news followed by a drink, a biscuit, and a lot of chat with each other.
Children are welcome. Please advise us on the "Contact us" form when bringing children so we can plan appropriate activities. Our children usually join us in Meeting for the first 15 minutes or so. They then have their own supervised activities for the rest of the hour.
Other things that we do include regular meals together, study groups, prayer groups, and an ad hoc programme of walks, outings and other social events.
NOTE: On the FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH our Quaker Meeting for Worship is held at 3pm instead of 10:30am.
